RHETORICS OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE
AND
THE ARTS OF RESISTANCE:
THE 2012 U.S. ELECTIONS

ACHTUS COLLOQUIUM 2012
SAINT LOUIS, MO
3-6 JUNE

With the U.S. national elections approaching, rhetorical posturing on critical issues concerning the growing Latin@ presence in the United States will once again come to the political forefront. As members and friends of the largest and most significant Latin@ Catholic theological and scholarly organization, we take this opportunity to critically assess the place of U.S. Latin@s and the political rhetorics—both vitriolic and resistant—about, and created by them that will reverberate well beyond this, past, and future election seasons. The format of this colloquium will challenge us to collectively assess how the role language and visual representations perpetuate and resist the rhetorics of political violence at this critical moment in our history.

Sessions :

Religion’s Role in Authorizing Political Violence Against Latin@s
Religion’s Role in Deconstructing Political Violence Against Latin@s
